I use a ciggy socket like this to hard wire a dash cam. That way you dont need to cut off the plug for the cam, and on some dash cams you cant cut the plug off due to it running on less than 12v.

Juat wire the positive to a ignition live accessory socket on the fuse box using a fuse tap and the negative wire to a earth point.
