The reason is the protective coating is quite soft and is only designed to protect the disc in storage and will not stand the heat generated by the brakes when in use.

The paint is bright silver and designred to stand temparatures of 190c. It is also oil, petrol and stone chip proof according to the blurb on the tin!!

It should make the discs look silver and hold back the rust that will form if left bare. It is only a cosmetic job but one that should keep the discs looking new and smart for longer.
