Tamsin,

If you switch on the air conditioning using the 'Auto' button or, even better, the windscreen demist button, that will ensure that your radiator fan runs continuously which will keep the coolant temperature down.

I would also recommend that, before setting off, you activate the digital temperature display in the instrument pack and keep an eye on it. If the temperature reaches, say, 105 degrees, you could stop and turn off the engine to allow it to cool and at the same time top-up the expansion tank.

If possible, choose a back street route where you can stop easily and quickly if necessary.

I'm located not too far from the A3 so when you get it home, I would be happy to have a look at your leak if you think it might help.
