Well I've been down the gold route....albeit 190 brakes & black wheels:

and now switched to white, with standard wheels:

I think the size of the caliper shouldn't be an issue, but I can't picture the carrier? It's just a nice finishing touch and if you don't like it, it's easy enough to change and try something different!
