Default Speedometer not working

Hi,

Speedometer has been working intermittently in the last week. It's done it before, but today I drove ~100 miles and the speedometer stopped working for about 75 of those miles.

Fuel gauge also likes to stick, but sometimes when the speedometer stops working it'll go up and down a quarter of a tank and just start wobbling. When the speedo stops working the mileage doesn't go up.

I'm thinking it may be the battery, because today the car would crank once, cut out, then come on again and start up but the letter "E" would appear next to the P on the information screen. Apparently I can check the voltage through the diagnostics menu so I'll do that tomorrow.

I've got no other warning lights such as the traction control or ABS light (could it still be the ABS sensor, which apparently causes these issues) so what could the problem be? I'm doing my oil change tomorrow so I'd best try and sort it whilst I'm doing that I reckon.

Cheers.
