Harry my jack has a rubber pad in the cup, and I still won't entertain jacking the car from the centre of the car regardless, it is just too unstable for my liking.

I never jack metal to metal, I tend to have a piece of 4x2 as I pictured earlier, and there is no problem with doing it that way.

18 months ago I treated myself to a lovely new 2 post lift.......sadly the thieving liar I'd been duped into thinking was my friend, sold it for £500

Still I much prefer working outdoors on my back
