Many years ago I worked for a Chem-Dry agent, quickly found out that plain warm water will remove most dirt with a bit of work. Only using spot cleaner where there was a stain that the water couldnt shift.
For really dirty carpets and upholstery in the car a vacumn upholstery machine like Trikey mentions will do the trick again spot cleaning where required.
