Vitesse is correct, the fan motor gets pretty hot when it's in frequent use. This heat is transferred via the armature spindle to the fan mounting plate. The fan therefore gets pretty hot around the centre where the three bayonet clips are located. Eventually, the area becomes brittle, so it's not unusual to read about breakage of the clips. MGR were aware of this issue so advised that a replacement fan unit be fitted if the original one had to be removed in service/repair situations. Members who have had a broken clip have been advised to use a self-tapping screw through the fan boss to secure it to the plate.
