Some might argue that any perceived bias at the BBC started many moons ago with received pronounciation (a plummy accent) being a requirement for its presenters back in the day. Staunch Yorkshire man Wilfred Pickles was given a presenting job during WW2 and he would bid his listeners a "Good Neet" but I suspect his appointment might have been more to do with the war office and its desire to thwart NAZI propaganda than the BBC itself.
