I've seen rover 75 CDTs on autotrader for under 1k, seemed pretty good too.
Mine cost £1,400 in march, V reg and it runs fine, just passed its MOT and they said the engine was in amazing condition.
If you can hold out for a bit im sure you can find a good CDT for under 1k.
