Not terminal in the slightest (unless it has got seriously hot!)-however what is important is measuring the height of the cylinder liners (which should stand proud of the block and be of even heights) and the face of the cylinder head for any warp (a max of .002 of an inch from memory).
If the head is straight there is no need to get it skimmed-most head gasket jobs I’ve done have not needed the head skimming!
