no not at alll! we are currently doing the headgasket on a 1.8 k. if you are going to takle it yourself its faily easy to do. just mark everything before you take it apart.

get a good quality head gasket kit from dgmrs and get the head skimmed. the head on ours is currently at the machine shop getting skimmed (£30+vat).

If you don't feel like doing it theres a largenumber of good mechanics that are known well but the guys and girls in the groups.
