My ZTT.. very nearly a write off
On January 12th, driving back home from Florence I was involved in an
accident where luckily only the cars were damaged. I was in the overtaking
lane, doing probably 70mph, when an Opel Meriva suddenly cut across just
in front of me attempting to pass a slower car. I braked very hard but hit him
in the rear left corner. No other cars were involved and we managed to reach
the next motorway exit. After having exchanged a few pleasantries, insurance
details and having taken a few photos, I managed to reach home.
Damage was extensive as parts needed were bonnet, wing, bumper, headlamp
and sundries. Being realistic a 13 year old car with nearly 300000 miles is
worth next to 0. The cost of the new parts in Italy was well over 3000 Euro
plus painting and fitting. It goes without saying that I had no intention of
breaking my car, but honestly I didn't know what to do. Then a couple of lucky
breaks. My local breakyard got a facelift 75 Tourer.. just incredible, so I got
bonnet, wing and two headlamps at a fair price. Then I received a check from
my insurance company that will cover a good part of the bodyshop fee.
I have to mention that I have a brand new genuine MG Rover premium bumper
that I never came across at fitting. In a couple of weeks I should be driving
again Black Pearl.. let's hope for the best
