RJ11 supports a maximum of 6 wires/pins, but the middle four are the only ones normally used. They are the plug which normally plugs into the phone end of the flexible phone lead for telecoms, it is also the type of plug which feeds the broadband telephone wire into routers. The other four ports on a router, the LAN ports, are RJ45.
