petrol v diesel fuel
Diesel fuel has a lower auto ignition temperature than petrol (I don't mean flash point which is the temperature of ignition in the presence of a flame) so if you have neat petrol in a diesel engine the air temp on compression wont be high enough to ignite it. Diesel is a lubricant for the moving parts of the injection system so the addition of petrol in any significant amounts will reduce the lubrication. I am not sure about the safety aspects of petrol in a diesel fuel system; there is a constant return of fuel from the injection system to the fuel tank which Rover decided needed a fuel cooler behind the RH back wheel so there must be some risk?
