I had a 1962 one and later a 1968 one.

The first one was really nice to drive, but it was only my second car and only 1200 cc and I loved it. I lived in Cumberland and driving down narrow lanes in it was hilarious as people tried to drive up hedges and dykes to get through, even though the van was the same size as a Beetle.

Rusted like a barsteward though.

And it blew up on the M1 in Luton. Hired an 1800 and towed it back to Cumberland overnight with some funny looks from Mr Plod when we stopped in a service area and brewed up in the van.

Replacement engine out of a Beetle and it was fine.

Second one was 1600 cc. Oooh the Power!

That one blew up on the M1 near Barnsley. Hired a brand new Allegro and towed it home, all went well until the final hill before home when I burnt the clutch on the tow car. One new cylinder and piston and off we went.

Those were the days. I removed the engine and rebuilt it inside the van. I was young and impecunious.

Now I'm old and impecunious and I really detest the "slamming" done to lots of T2s. To me they look broken.
