I bought a cheap CDT recently - not from the club.

So far I have had to replace:

Kenlowe radiator fan - £145 for the kit - plus several hours to strip and fit (genuine Rover unit £300+)
intercooler viton rings - £3
new IPK - £85 plus £45 for T4 session
new aircon condensor - £60 plus whatever it's gonna cost for a pressure test and re-fill

If I'd gone for a club car - which I nearly did but thought about it too long and it had gone - I wouldn't have had any of this expense.

Clutch had recently been replaced, but you can generally expect to replace that, my exhaust is original and doesn't look too great but is OK for now. £300 each for those

Your MAF will more than likely need replacing or be out of speck and you'll probably want more performance - so you'll want a synergy 2 at around £180 plus a MAF at £80 for a cheapy and £300+ for genuine.

You can see where the "you'll probably have to spend £1k on a cheap CDT" comes from.
