Mine suffered the joint/ splitter cover coming off the wing, just weeks after I bought it, with me stuck in a field far from home. So I had to ask for forum help to open the bonnet.
The joint and lock mechanisms were well greased, not tight, but the plastic cover which simply clips into the wing, had become unclipped. I didn't want to have to go through that same process again, so I made sure the cover could never become detached again. Rather than a cable tie, I used thin galv wire, passed through the same two holes that the cover clips into. I have had no issues since then.
