My ‘oldun’s’ were quite nifty on the ivories and mum used to play at the local lodge when there was a party. So the music of my youth (1950’s onwards) was less than popular in the house.
In any case I never had the money for what is now called an album. Albums then were called ‘Eagle’ and ‘Dandy’.
So, would a single be allowed? The first record I bought was The Diamonds version of Little Darlin’ and I’ve still got it. Unfortunately, it’s a 78rpm so haven’t been able to play it for 40 years!
There is a wonderful memory of my old friend, George Newby, re-writing the words in celebration of the insurance man from the death club who knocked on the door once a week. Loudly. His nickname was Old Septic Knuckles for obvious reasons. The tune was as the above record. From memory his name was Dougie Weller so if there are any living relatives (Runcorn 1950’s on)I’ll bet you are well insured.
