I had the optical sensor fitted to my car (currently taken off due to tank leak) and that would warn you as soon as you turned on the ignition if the level had dropped since you parked up.
Would be good to get your feedback on the v6. 20 seconds from start up would not be detrimental to the engine. Supposing the engine was completely devoid of coolant (which is almost impossible) 20 seconds running would not do any damage.
