People start by looking out for a nice looking car with good history, eventually finding what seems to be nearest to their preference. Then they blind themselves to some of the practicalities and let their heart rule their head.

For instance, have you seen the number of diesels on the market lately? Certainly a lot more than this time last year. Already diesel fuel is rising higher than petrol and will continue, given the trend away from fossil fuel. Does that matter to you? You could possibly find taxation of them becoming unmanageable in the near future so factor that into your plans.

In short, do you see the car as short, medium or long term, then reconsider the price over that period. And, incidentally, also the depreciation of what it cost you to buy into versus other cars of a similar heritage.
