If you search 'lithium ion battery fires', there seem to be a lot of them. At least forty Tesla megabattery fires, and many vehicles too. This is also why many carriers refuse to accept or apply special measures for Li cells.
My brother in law handed a Golf ID3 back after only a few days because the range was much less than claimed. With a brand new car he was unable to drive from Dumfries to Southport on a full charge. When he found a charger, it was out of commission. But spontaneously bursting into flames is a different issue altogether.
