The very first itteration of the 2-speed system used resisters rated at 50 watts. At some point thereafter, MGR uprated them to 75 watts and it remained so until MGR folded. Clearly, 75 watts is also too low since the majority of those fans still on the road will have been fixed with the aftermarket 100watt 'gold' upgrades. If the latest 'OEM' fan systems have a redesigned fan attachment, it would be logical to uprate the resistor as well. The 100watt requirement has been widely recognised for many years, so perhaps it's why these kits are more robust?
