Sadly it needed more work; it retains this black again whilst running in. It will return in green, but BR dark green livery as 60103. This is NOT original green, it has carried Great Northen Railway green when new as an A1 class loco, through LNER apple green and rebuild to an A3, then BR dark green in the 1950s. (Also various other temporary schemes). Upon withdrawal from normal revenue earning service in 1963(?) it was bought privately by Alan Pegler. He had it restored to a single chimney, added a corridor tender like it had new, (eventually he made that 2) and it was repainted LNER green again as 4472. It gave many years service in preservation, ultimately for operating reasons regaining its double chimney and German type smoke deflectors from the late 1950s BR era. 10 years ago it was bought by the National Railway Museum at York and the present rebuild started.

The smoke deflectors and double chimney, along with a single non-corridor tender, represent the last years of BR service. However as it continued in service in preservation, techically the mix and match condition it is in now (or shortly will be) in ARE historically correct as it has been there before!
Good to see the old girl back in steam.
