Lovely day here today. Had a call from daughter yesterday as her hubby had changed the oil in her Volvo V40 and the car had "told" her that it needed another 1/2 litre of oil. Hubby was away on business but messaged to see if we could check for a leak. No leaks, so duly topped up with "instructed" 1/2 a litre. Checked electronically (no dipstick) and still saying it was low by 1/2 a litre!!! It seems that the car has to travel 30 km to "learn" the new level, so now it may be overfilled. Not good on a car that can "diesel" and run itself to death if overfilled! What was wrong with a dipstick?
All well and good to fit a fancy level sensor but why get rid of the actual dipstick?
She has borrowed hubbies car from the works car park and he may have to start all over, drain and refill to correct level (after he has checked the engine numbers as it seems that there are two different oil capacities for the D4 engine of 5.2 or 5.9 litres depending on year of manufacture!) GRRRRRRRRRRR !
