the bearing fits into the mount. Bearing can become worn, normally in the straight ahead position. So as you turn, it clunks. The grease can escape also, giving a grumbling noise and rough feel to the steering.

Suspension as mentioned, best practice is replaced in pairs. Below are the rear struts from my car. It showed no obvious signs of any issue, and handled remarkably well, passed MOT 11 month prior. I never felt the need to do the 'bounce' test. But imagine if the left one showed weeping just before the MOT. You replace it, the right one, whilst looking corroded, doesnt show signs of weeping (it wouldnt, I guess lol). So you just replace the left one
