If I want to get close-ups of flowers, insects etc. - what do you think to these combined wide angle/macro lens that screw onto the front of a normal lens ( like this) - are they any good?

Hi Rod,
I know this was directed at Phil but can I interject as well?
The answer with those add on things is, they are okay to play with but will not give you as good results as a dedicated macro lens.
All depends on how much detail and how close you want to get on your subject.
A close up/ extension tube adaptor might be a better bet. These can be used with your existing lenses and effectively turn them in to a macro lens. They screw on to the back of your lens and then on to the camera body.
Hope that may help.
