Thanks Brian,
Do you mean the wires that terminate in a plug that clicks into the each coil pack. If so then yes, the plastic protection is in poor condition (brittle due to age) especially around the clips where it runs along the top of the engine. I'll inspect it closer this evening.

Yes there is an earth wire running from the drivers side wing to the rocker cover.
