Tim; I’d say that you’ve made the right decision.

Your 1998 car won’t have the type of fuel filter prone to separation and they don’t become blocked in normal use. Besides, you’re quite right to consider the time factor between breakdown and miraculous recovery!

The camshaft sensor will prevent starting and members have found that cooling it restores normal operation.
A faulty crankshaft sensor will disable the fuel pump relay.
