Could the fuel be vapourising in the pipe before it gets to the carb? This was a regular occurrence on my old Lambretta when I stupidly shortened the fuel pipe.

“Bogging down” is a good description - engine runs fine when cold - but when hot - open the throttle and and you get a sort of “fluffing” effect where nothing happens and the inlet manifold can be heard just sucking in air.

If not this - could it be the way it is being held? - could it be fuel starvation due to the angle of use?
