BUT been checking speed a few times last few days,not once was it over 6.5 at the moment it's 3.66. Can anyone explain why this should be,is it because i need a new laptop or is it a B.T. fault.

I cant see it being your laptop, Are you using it hardwired or Wi-Fi? Our Virgin media broadband Wi-Fi ended up rubbish speeds but plugged in using the ethernet cable was fine.I'm using an old HP workstation that's from 2009 and speeds are good.
