If it has a manual gearbox then you see them for sale requiring a new clutch and that's not exactly cheap but so many other cars aren't cheap to fix either.
Maybe it's the VED bracket that they sit in, that doesn't help.
But if you have the know how and the space you can pick up some real bargains which are highly specced and sell on repaired.
Although most do get broken.
