I agree about telling grandchildren: I read recently that the best way to keep social history alive is for grandparents to do this, as parent/children contact is too close history-wise.
Taking this up, over a period of several weeks, I put about 35000 words on paper, firstly listing the years, and adding notes to each as I remembered things. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was my autobiography, just a lot of very fond memories.
