I cant comment on halogens on a 75/zt, but the xenons are far superior than the halogen projectors that were in my previous Passat.
If yours arent good (and are not cloudy), check that they are rising/self testing when they are switched on. Then check that the sensors are working, and their arms not reversed. If these are reversed (common) or have failed, the lamps will not rise and self adjust, therefore giving a very short range.
