If one is able to safely inspect under the car and around the exhaust, check all mountings and the fittings of the exhaust heat shields. After a while, not just with our brand of car, the holes through which the bolts are fitted, corrode and enlarge allowing the shield to drop and rest on the exhaust pipe. The application of larger washers can solve this.
