Hey there,

I once did the opposite conversion on my Maestro Vanden Plas, to convert a 1.6 Automatic to 2.0 Efi Manual. I bought a complete donor vehicle, parked it next to the auto car and then stripped them both down, discarding the auto parts and transferring the manual parts onto my car.

It was a pretty involved job, requiring a swap of:

Engine
Engine/Gearbox Mounts
Gearbox
Full Wiring Loom
Pedal box
Gear selector
Suspension
Exhaust
Fuel system

The entire interior and dash had to be removed from both cars to get the loom out.

Your conversion will be a little easier seeing as the engine will be the same, meaning that the suspension and exhaust/fuel systems don't need to be swapped. You will probably need either to swap the wiring looms or at least modify the manual one's loom with parts from the auto.

I also had to notify the DVLA of the change - in my case it was also the engine number that swapped.

It's definitely possible, however, it might be cheaper to find an auto car and have it painted yellow!
