Thanks Russ, Yes, will purchase a cork gasket. Can the covers be welded? Obviously won't find out if it's rusted too much until it's in the garage and the cover is removed. It's my only car so I can't have it off the road for longer than a week.

To be safe I'd rather source a cover now. I'll know more once I've degreased the area and watched for where the leakage is.

Any idea where I can get a cover from or are they unobtainable?

It didn't have an engine tray for many years when I bought it and I did fit one but in the end the connections on the subframe rusted away so I can't fit the cover back.

I got very little sleep last night, I'm worried sick about this. And scared of driving her now
