If its not on the pump you removed you may have a pipe in the tank going to the other side.. If its disconnected it may be a problem with lack of fuel under half a tank
It has to be located extremely close to the pump due to the pipework, diesels have a longer pipe, the pumps / filter /piework removed were the later type without most of the gubbins from the early ones.

Having not been in an early tank before I have no idea as to the location of this part and I struggling to make sense in the tank as to where it goes.
