Hi Pondweed. get a diesel 1.9 Citroen ZX 5 door hatchback, they have normal springs n stuff, and the Peugeot XUD engine in them is about as reliable as engines get.

There are loads of them on eBay, look for the AURA model pre 1994, they are top of the range and ECU free! The "facelift" 1995 has a grill and an ECU! Look for one with a slot not a grill, like this..

My auto ave around 35 mpg but does 50+ on the mways

A nice 1994 ish 1.9D or TD is around £600 to buy.

the autos are a bit more expensive, but very hard to find

If you keep it while you source another car, you wont lose much when you sell it on again.
