All depends on how much detail and how close you want to get on your subject.
A close up/ extension tube adaptor might be a better bet. These can be used with your existing lenses and effectively turn them in to a macro lens. They screw on to the back of your lens and then on to the camera body.

BRILLIANT thanks Jeff - that looks like a better bet than those that screw onto the front of the lens - and the fact that there is no glass to scratch, clean, break, protect is a bonus.
