The answer with those add on things is, they are okay to play with but will not give you as good results as a dedicated macro lens.
All depends on how much detail and how close you want to get on your subject.
A close up/ extension tube adaptor might be a better bet. These can be used with your existing lenses and effectively turn them in to a macro lens. They screw on to the back of your lens and then on to the camera body.
