The 'box ECU can be swapped without the need for a T4 session. You just have to make sure the replacement is from a car with the same engine to ensure the software is correct for shift patterns etc. The change was initially beneficial but the old traits returned, much like when it would reset the original ECU.

Thanks for info, Richard.

I'm quite certain that the autobox in my car is in physically good condition, as the oil that had come out previously (last year) looked quite good and the car has never been abused in the 110,000 miles (of 140,000 total) that I've personally completed in it. I have a new old stock ECU for the 1.8T autobox - I'll probably swap them over when I'm doing the solenoid kit swap, which I hope will bestow some better shifting traits to the box.

I'm going to take a good look at all the wiring harnesses in the engine bay too when I'm doing the fuel rail, to see if I can nail down the cause of the misfire..

I hope to report some good news over the next month or two

Fingers crossed

Cheers,
Karl.
