There's no prerequisite depth. Providing it allows sufficient space for the hose to fit comfortably on the head outlet, it'll be fine. You really don't need Jubilees to hold it in position, it's not going anywhere.
In the event of having to remove it later, I'm sure you needn't worry. What goes in comes out. Note that the waist diameter of R5 stats is slightly variable depending on the brand.
