Got the brushes from a company ECP ? Same guys as last time and seemed ok.
Just for the interest of those who are crazy enough to pull the whole fan to bits. SD1too is correct you can remove the commutator (centre bit with the wiring) BUT after trying on two old motors,I found trying to get the bit off that holds the fan onto the shaft is nearly imposible as it is made of die cast rather than steel and is very brittle (broke both bits even trying to press them off)
You can however belt the centre shaft back through the commutator and leave the fan attachment bit on the shaft (bit late for me now !!!)
Basically it comes out with the end bearing also on the shaft.
Unless you can get spare fan attachment bit to fit to the shaft think im up for a new fan.
Pitty as I could have made one good one !!
BTW,when dis assembling the fan cover,dont try to belt the tags holding the outsdie cover on as the magnets in the fan a very brittle and will crack easily,need to bend the tags if possible.
