Had experience of this before on a 75 2.5 V6 (2003)
The garage had indeed replaced the matrix. Unfortunately the matrix was similar in many respects, but not the same as it was thinner, the matrix was not fitting into the pocket area snugly and only supplying warmth (Tepid) air to the one side. With a good cleaned out used matrix fitted and cooling system bled properly, it worked properly!
The matrix had a weedy little core, the pipework looked quite gash and had external reinforcements tacked to the sides as a support frame. Total rubbish.
You may have a similar type fitted on yours.
