I think the BM54 has twin tuners where the BM24 has only one, it can receive info on other stations while you are listening to another and gets the TMC info for the sat nav, does your BM24 do that? If I have route guidance selected then traffic hold ups get shown on my map.

I bought a BM54 from navtvman on ebay, it has the uprated chips and he added Bluetooth for me, this is to stream music and not for handsfree calling as there is no integration for the microphone unlike in the BMWs.
Both the BM24 and BM54 have dual tuners so TMC function is full time on both of these.
