Hi dadragon,
Your suggestions have been taken on board as has everyone else's.
Today I have installed the well tested ECU by 'marinabrian' what a gem he is!
I also removed the battery box and checked the ABS modulator for any corrosion ect. All fine, cleaned up everything I had removed.
Tomorrow will look at the earth straps and the wiring under the under-bonnet fuse box as suggested by Brian.
The car must next go in for MOT and a major service so will talk about my mystery to them.
I did take the car into town for a fill up, round trip about ten miles, everything seemed very normal!
