Default Laser Printer "repaired" for 2p

Today I nearly scrapped my 18 month old Colour laser printer Samsung CLP 325
The page count had reached 24,008 copies and the smart panel said replace imaging unit R407.

This is more than half the cost of a new printer so I decided to investigate a "frig" repair......not a bodge as i don't believe in those !

Looking on the bay of flees you can buy a "reset chip" for approx £18
I decided to inspect the little plugin module on the RHS of the imaging unit which deliberately fuses after a certain count.
Shame on you Samsung and other manufacturers

There's 100k resistor strapped across a 0.47 ohm fusible resistor which in turn is connected in series with a tiny green fuse 1/16 amp.
Fuse had blown so I got my old TV repair spares box out and had a PCB fuse very close to that value .
Soldered in a hey presto.

The 100k resistor is there to discharge the high voltage they use to deliberately blow your fuse.
It also probably tells the printer CPU that the fuse has blown and the duff module is still installed.

Page count now reset to 24,000 pages
So a poke for Samsung
Cost me 2p to repair and didn't even need the Fleebay so called reset chip !!

I wonder how many millions of printers are thrown into landfill because of this dishonesty by corporate companies.

Needless to say I'll be going on holiday with the £250 we just saved
