Thanks,good idea using the wire. Changed it and its exactly the same. Gets to 84-85 under load then stat opens and runs at 82degrees.

I'm guesssing the difference in running temp maybe because that stat is located in a different part of the coolant system (hotter) to the original so opens slightly earlier.
It seems you may need a higher rated stat to match the running temp of the original due to the change in location.
I imagine with a correctly working oem stat the coolant in the top hose would be approx 92-93 degrees when the stat opened.

I could be completely wrong however.I will replace the original at some point.
