Not shorting the battery, disconnect the leads...

Not shorting the battery, disconnect the leads and short them together
has the effect of discharging the car electrical systems, when power is reapplied the systems re boot from scratch.

I had the same problem, outside air temperature...

I had the same problem, outside air temperature reading -30,
caused by corrosion in that connector. Cleaned with contact cleaner,
then smeared with Vaseline. Been good since.

Don't think so, I tend to tap the throttle slightly to increase the revs,
but not enough to re-engage the auto box, to fool it, may have to do it several
times on a long hill descent.

they are fitted over a thread so should unscrew. They aren't tight.
Mine are only finger tight.

Did you do as Dave suggested, open the boot and watch the red LED on the drive unit, after about 5 minutes the LED should go out, if not, that is why it was not connected in the first place.
