V6 misfire...

this has been on my mind for a while now that my car has a slight misfire but i can't work out whats causing it.

the symptoms are when idleing you get a slight judder through the drivers seat and if you rev the car just over 1000 rpm it judders on the way up, past that its fine. and also when cold if i drive it up a smooth bit of road at 40 mph i can still feel it judder slightly but it has no pattern, somtimes it does it somtimes its fine??

i was thinking fuel filter but mine being a feb 2000 car would my fuel filter still come appart?

any help or info would be great.:)

Quite a few possibilities.

Firstly, I'd check to see if any codes are in the ECU.

When was the car last serviced?

Are there any ticking/clicking sounds coming from the engine?

Whats the overall performance like?

she had a service at a MGR garage in october which included spark plugs oil, filter, gearbox oil and coolant, plus i had 2 new vis motors fitted before hand.

there is a noise i can hear which comes from around the back of the engine near the flexi exhaust joint so its probally that, the only other ticking noise i can hear is if i overtake somthing and go up to 4000 rpm i can hear a rattle/ ticking noise.

the overall performance is ok, shes very slugish around low throttle up to 60 mph but if i go to half throttle and go to 4000 rpm she does shift alough ive only ever done that twice.:getmecoat:

what to do

Remove the spark plugs carefully and examine them.

Either a spark plug is faulty or the spark plug colour of the odd one out will reveal what kind
of problem the engine has.

See Haynes manual.

Right i made a 60 mile round trip to my local mgr garage today for them to have a quick listen and he said its not a misfire as that would put the engine warning light on???? but he did say yes its not running 100% and it sounds like somthings inbalanced? but the strangest thing is that i remember having this problem when i bought the car and one day it just went so i did'nt think anymore of it, also its probally just a coincedence but the day before i ran low on fuel so the next day a bought a fivers worth of fuel in a can to get me to the shell station, she drove fine all the way there and when idleing she was very smooth, it was just when i got back home and put the car into park the problem started again.

My car does this, I can feel a slight vibration/imbalance when just breathing on the throttle at idle. The car goes like stink. I was thinking it was a worn ancilliary but it isn't really bothering me at the moment.

i was thinking along the lines of the idle control valve or somthing similar but have run out of ideas.:(

.:)

No , the cars before and upto 2001 appear to have had a clip-together filter which does not unscrew like the later ones . By the way, I love the colour of your leather !

sorry to bring up an old thread again but the (misfire?) has got a little worse. i can feel it when driving the car now not just in park/neutral, she's been parked up for the last week and was sort of driving ok before hand, i realy need to get her sorted as i have the midlands meet to attend to next week and i realy don't want to drive her up like she is, please help.:mood::cry: The only temporary fix i have at the moment is beer, but supplies are running low.:D:getmecoat:

also is it true that even a slight missfire will put the engine check light on?
